Dear Detroit, I’m sorry we’re leaving

Friday, June 13th, 2014

This past weekend Husby, Cheeks, and I made the move from Midtown Detroit to Madison. Add Husby and I to the list of young, educated, financially stable folk who came into Detroit with bright eyes and dreams only to leave too early. There are many things that factored into our choice to move away from […]

moving right along

Tuesday, April 15th, 2014

Now that the loose ends have been tied up, I’m excited to say the macnamania family is moving.  Husby got an excellent resident position match with the University of Wisconsin Madison. And where the match decrees, so shall we go. So Husby, Cheeks McGee, and I will spend the next month and a half enjoying […]

Seven Things: that I will do when I am done with grad school

Friday, December 14th, 2012

Friends, I finish grad school in 4 and a half days. No, I do not know what I will be doing next.  But aside from finding a job I will be doing the following: 1. Rereading Anna Karenina, and maybe Harry Potter. I’ve been reading a lot of crap lately, mixed in with reading for […]

Seven Things: That I could have blogged about in September, but didn’t

Friday, September 28th, 2012

Folks, I don’t know why I haven’t written anything here in over a month. I do know that I spend 3 of those weekends traveling to MN, so that may have had something to do with it. But I have Monday’s off, it’s not like I don’t have enough time for this. Anywho. Since I […]

SE Michigan loves to honk

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

The wedding was perfect.  There’s so much more to say, but that’s all I got right now. And we left the reception (or party#2 of 3) to find that my brothers (and possibly others? not really sure who all is responsible for this) had done their duties to decorate our getaway car. We left town […]

Is it fall yet?

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

The past month or so in the midwest has been a heat advisory fest.  As much as I love our cute fourth floor walk up apartment, when heat rises and there’s not so much as  a breeze to move it around it makes us a little crazy. I’ve been ready for the heat to break […]

Seven Things: to cook with all the wonderful late summer fruits and veggies

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

Fiance and I have a half farm share this year, which means that every 2 weeks we get to pick up a box of veggies from a local (about an hour and a half away) farm.  Having such fresh produce has been wonderful.  Every other friday I excitedly wait for the list of veggies we’ll […]

A few things I noticed upon return

Friday, May 27th, 2011

All the leaves are here.  When I left, many of the trees were still just starting to leaf out. Gas  prices are back under $4.00.  Thank. God. Tanzania mountain roads during the rains make Michigan potholes seem much more manageable. Ya’ll are still here.  We thought maybe no one in Tanzania was raptured.

Seven Things: to do in Detroit

Monday, May 9th, 2011

In honor of the fact that I spend almost every weekend in Detroit, and that I will be an official D town resident starting in July, I wanted to pass on some of my faves thus far.  Note, many of these are places to eat, because fiance and I love trying new places.  Or at […]
