new house tour

If you follow along on Building Earth, you already know our big news (If not, you should!) We bought a house!

About a year ago, when Husby came to Wisconsin to do some residency program interviews and fell in love with this rural track program, we hatched this plan to buy a house before the new year. Back in October I started touring houses, and by the end of October we were ready to make an offer. We got very lucky and everything with our offer, inspection, financing, and closing went so smoothly. And so here we are, in the new year with a new house.

It’s a cute little one-story, two-bedroom, starter bungalow. It’s got some great features, like a large kitchen and dinette, some beautiful wood trim, a cut out window surrounded nook, and this wood plank ceiling that kept me thinking of this house as I looked at others (This was the first house I saw when I started looking). And a spacious back yard on the south side of our house. We’ve been hatching garden plans since we made our initial offer.

Off to the left is the 1st bedroom – it’s the master because it’s got a slightly larger closet, but otherwise the two bedrooms are identical.

There is also a front porch and an unfinished basement.

The house needs some updating to meet our tastes, but otherwise everything is in very good condition. We’ve been picking paint colors, tossing around ideas for built-in features and updates, exploring every nook and cranny, and even started painting the ceilings this week.

It’s been so exciting to have this little plan take shape and come to fruition, and we’re even more excited to really settle in and create the space where we will see so many other future plans (and first steps) take place!
